Remove Cloud Account Safely
Overview
There are two ways to remove a cloud account from CloudAIPilot: Disconnect and Delete Permanently. They have very different consequences — choose carefully.
Disconnect vs Delete: What's the Difference
| Disconnect Account | Delete Permanently | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens | Account and its servers are hidden from the dashboard. All data is preserved. | All CloudAIPilot data for the account is permanently deleted. |
| Servers | Hidden along with their sites, backups, and schedules. Still exist in the cloud. | Server records, monitoring data, backup records, and schedules are deleted. |
| Reversible? | Yes — reconnect the same account at any time to restore everything. | No — cannot be undone. |
| Confirmation | Single confirmation click. | Must type the account's display name to confirm. |
Recommendation: Use Disconnect unless you are certain you no longer need the CloudAIPilot data for this account. Disconnecting is always reversible.
How to Disconnect a Cloud Account
- Go to Cloud Accounts.
- Click the
···menu on the account card. - Select Disconnect Account.
- Confirm in the dialog that appears.
The account and all associated servers will be hidden from your dashboard. Background jobs (monitoring, backups) will pause. You can reconnect at any time by clicking Connect Account and supplying the same credentials — CloudAIPilot will detect it as a reconnect and restore everything automatically.
How to Delete a Cloud Account Permanently
- Go to Cloud Accounts.
- Click the
···menu on the account card. - Select Delete Permanently.
- In the confirmation dialog, type the exact account display name and click Delete Permanently.
Permanently deleting an account removes the account record, credentials, all associated server records, monitoring data, backup records, and FinOps history from CloudAIPilot. Note that your actual cloud resources (VMs, disks, storage buckets) are not affected — they remain in your cloud provider account.
After Removing an Account
After disconnecting or deleting a cloud account from CloudAIPilot, we recommend logging into your cloud provider and revoking or deleting the credentials that were used (IAM role, service account key, or personal access token). This prevents any leftover credential from being reused.
