Notification Preferences Matrix
Who this is for
Anyone who wants to control which events they personally receive as notifications, and Admins who want to configure notification policies for their team.
What you will complete
Configure your personal notification preferences (which event types you receive) and understand how Admins can set per-member policies.
Before you begin
- Navigate to Settings → Notification Channels.
- Scroll down to the My Alert Preferences section.
Personal notification preferences
Each team member can choose which event types they personally receive. This is separate from the channel configuration — channels are organization-wide, but preferences let individuals opt out of specific event types.
Event categories you can toggle:
| Category | Events included |
|---|---|
| Servers | Provisioned, provision failed, agent installed, externally deleted, SSH setup complete/failed, SSL expiring, SSL renewed |
| Backups | Backup completed, backup failed, restore completed, restore failed |
| Deployments | Site deploy success/failed/rolled back, app deploy succeeded/failed |
| FinOps & Alerts | Alert fired, alert resolved, anomaly detected, budget exceeded, waste detected, recommendation created, report delivered |
| Security | New login, failed login attempts |
| Team | Member invited, role changed |
| Cloud Storage | Upload completed/failed, download completed/failed, retention cleanup |
| Database | Created, provision failed, CPU alert, storage full warning, backup failed |
| Goals & Insights | Goal completed/failed/blocked, performance insight, security insight, cost insight, reliability insight |
| Migrations | Migration completed, migration failed |
Step-by-step: set your personal preferences
- Go to Settings → Notification Channels.
- Scroll down to My Alert Preferences.
- Click your name/email row to expand the preferences panel.
- The panel shows all event categories with checkboxes.
- Uncheck any event type you do not want to receive.
- Click Save preferences.
Your preferences take effect immediately for future events.
Note: Some events may be locked by an Admin (shown with a padlock icon). Locked events cannot be unchecked by individual members — only Admins can change them.
Admin: set per-member notification policies
Admins and Owners can configure notification preferences for each team member and optionally lock specific settings.
- Go to Settings → Notification Channels.
- Scroll down to Team Alert Access (visible to Admins and Owners only).
- Click a team member's row to expand their preferences panel.
- Toggle event types on or off for that member.
- Optionally mark an event as locked — locked events cannot be changed by the member themselves.
- Click Save preferences.
Recommended preference patterns
For on-call engineers: Enable all FinOps & Alerts events, all Servers events, all Deployments events. This ensures they receive every actionable notification.
For developers: Enable Deployments, Backups, and Goals events. Disable FinOps, Security, and Team events (less relevant to day-to-day work).
For managers/stakeholders: Enable FinOps & Alerts (budget and anomaly events only), Goals (goal completed/failed), and Migrations. Disable operational noise like Servers and Backups.
What success looks like
- After saving preferences, you stop receiving notifications for unchecked event types.
- Checked event types continue to arrive when those events occur.
Common errors and fixes
"I unchecked an event but still receive notifications for it" Cause: An Admin may have locked that event type for your account, or the preference was not saved. Fix: Check for a padlock icon next to the event in your preferences panel. If locked, contact your organization Owner. If no padlock, re-save your preferences.
"The Team Alert Access section is not visible" Cause: You are a Member or Viewer, not an Admin. Fix: This section is only visible to Admins and Owners. Members can only configure their own preferences.
